Bound by Erotic Romance

At times, it’s a brow-raising surprise to me how inspiration for a new story comes about. Or, my Muse works in strange and mysterious ways.
My latest WIP, tentatively titled, Mercy is for Sissies, had it’s subconscious-brewing origins in a blog written about men in chains... okay a picture of Kevin Sorbo as Hercules that was featured on the post, was an inspiration unto itself... however, the blog and following comments opened my eyes to how much some readers find men bound by chains erotically sexy.
More recently, this deliciously wicked picture was featured during the Liquid Silver Author’s Halloween blog tour. Again, the comments were revealing and downright motivating.
Thusly, my heroine, Skycat, and her story were born. One of those big color, movie-like scenes formed in front of my mind’s eyes, starring Skycat and the hero. Then, my writing instincts took over.

Flash from my WIP ~ Mercy is for Sissies

Skycat strode down the long ramp of the docking station. She moved at a slower pace than usual, fried and drained from her last assignment, capturing a particularly nasty space raider. Still, her superior senses remained on duty and she recorded everything around her, including the glint of her immediate’s superior’s hovering eye as she called the small sphere device he used like a second pair of eyes.
Darkly amused, Skycat snapped a mocking salute and moved toward her silver flight cycle. If he’d wanted a fast report, Benx would have met her or sent one of his flight pods.

Even with her weariness, adrenaline kept her in its relentless grip and Skycat swung astride the cycle as if off to the races. Not bothering with any protective gear, she anti-graved above the ground, rotated to the air lane that would take her beyond the thriving spaceport city, then zoomed toward her domain located in the red cliffs.
Arcing the aerodynamic cycle above the minimal traffic, she traveled over the latest construction, slender swirling spires that looked like they’d been constructed out of wire. Normally, she would have stopped in for a leisurely meal at her favorite, off-the-beaten track tavern.

But that could get her into the kind of trouble she didn’t want, given her over-taxed body and mind.
Lowering her speed, Skycat leaned forward entering the sparse forest of pine trees, high on the cliff’s time-worn side. She wove an unmarked path through the spindly, yet majestic trees, aware that several pairs of critter eyes watched her as she passed. She didn’t bother identifying them her with her psi-sight. Most of the area’s animals had become used to her living among them. Instead, she inhaled deeply, indulging in the fecund odors of the ground littered with drying pine needles.

The slightly acrid scents of prickly bushes and dry-climate berries drifted around her. Still immature, the berries would soon be a feast for her, the birds and especially, the red-coated small bears. That is, if she wasn’t on assignment, gunning for some bad ass galactic criminal.
In a smooth move, Skycat swerved toward the cave tunnel, short in length, that led inside her abode. Straightening her arm, she shot energy from her palm at the invisible field protecting the entrance, dissolving it. Sliding inside the dim interior, she halted instantly, then swung her leg over the front of her flyer.

Behind her, the barrier restored itself as she landed on the balls of her booted feet.
Skycat had sculptured every inch of her domain, using her energy-force to shape the front entrance of the small cave into her private haven. Knowing the snaking curve of her enclosed stairway, she trotted up rapidly in the semi-darkness, ready for a cold drink, then something to eat. Then the sweetness of sleep.
Entering her food area, she hit the switch that opened her huge skylight. Beams of sienna-colored light poured inward from the lowering sun. Skycat sighed with the relief of being home.

Moving toward her chest-high cooler, also carved out of the rock, she pulled out a bottle of sassafras brew. As she flicked off the old-fashioned lid and took a leisurely sip of the tangy potent liquid, Skycat smelled him. A real man.
Nope, not an android. However, by his scent, he’d been brain-altered enough that he couldn’t use whatever abilities he possessed to harm her. No wonder her psi senses hadn’t clanged a warning. Skycat tipped up another sip as she slowly spun around gazing into her large central room. Sunbeams barely outlined the figure of a man laying prone.

Unmoving, he appeared to have been positioned on one of her lounge chairs. Various scenarios of how and why a man had been placed inside her domain sped through Skycat’s mind as she approached, her tread silent. She certainly hadn’t ordered him. She’d never ordered a man to service her sexual needs.
Of course, it could be one of Benx’s pranks. It’d be like him to place a fake order, then use his access to her abode in this ‘gotcha ha-ha way’. She could imagine him before her mind’s eye now, laughing his skinny hind end off at her expense.

Yep, Benx would be clutching his concave stomach.
It wasn’t her birthday or any other gift-giving occasion, so that probably left her mother out. Besides, her beloved mother would be matchmaking, not sending her a sex-for-the-night gift.
He hadn’t been transported inside her home. Skycat would have seen the residue frequencies and felt them. Only her sister and her best friend, Priov, had the code to enter her front door. Her sister, Lilydragon, wouldn’t have parted with the coin, being ultra careful in her expenses.
Shortly before departing her cruiser at docking, she’d had a long welcome-home chat with Priov.

He’d been on his way out, ready to dine and dance the night away with a new man friend who’d intrigued him with his intellect and, of course, his handsome physique.
Priov swung both ways in the sex department and preferred threesomes. That was one reason their friendship remained strong and had survived since childhood. Sexual attraction never got in the way and their preferences were starkly different. Yet, there was no one Skycat loved more than Priov. If her friend had set up this scenario, he’d have given her a couple of sly hints, urging her to go home.

Whoever the naked man was, at least, he appeared naked from this distance, he’d been elaborately bound, trussed up by the type of soft rope used in playing out erotic fantasies. Sunbeams highlighted the impressive ultra-masculine planes of his torso, buttocks and thighs. Not only that, the reddish light enhanced his skin color, a dark brown with a bronze sheen, the kind of coloring on a man that always tempted her tongue to lap and taste.
Not sensing an ambush, Skycat sauntered closer. With her luck, he’d probably be temporarily neutered, a practice men used to curb their carnal appetites.

Escaping into Romance

Courtesy of ~ http://illusionsgallery.com/holy-grail-L.jpg ~

For the longest time I never considered reading fiction books and romance novels to be an escape from reality. I simply read because that was my passion. I wanted to live the adventure... live the story. I wanted to feel the romance and the happy ending to my innermost core.
It wasn’t until I took literature classes in college that such reading was considered to be a form of escapism. Given the trial and tribulations of life we all go through and endure to the best of our ability, I now fully understand the need to escape into a good read. Do I ever understand!
That is also one of my joys as a writer, I get to lose myself inside the story as I create it, as it spins and spills from me like the best magic... at least, part of the time. Sometimes, it’s like pulling hen’s teeth.
Since I’m feeling that deep need to escape by penning a romantic scene I thought I would add to a scene I began and posted on the Happily Ever After blog last January 21, that would be about five months ago. Wow, the time flies... well, there must be a hole in the time continuum.

Romance’s Red Ribbon ~

ONE

Light my loin’s fire,
Red is the color of my desire.
Let’s wing our love higher.
Come, take my breast, my Sire.
To ignite my most savage fire,
Taste my nipples to your desire,
Stoke my passions, take me swiftly higher...
Make them red as berries, my Princely Sire....
O, yes, I beg, tease my nether petals to a fierce needy fire
For you, bring me beneath your throbbing blade, soar us both to red’s most blistering desire...

Kyzaira sighed to the depths of her heart, and felt it flutter within her breast. She’d only meant to pen a few lines of fanciful thought. Yet, there it was, her heart and her desire spilled from her red ink pen onto parchment. Disbelievingly, she stared for a moment. How? When had she become so carried away? Some fair time ago, she had settled at her desk for the purpose of sending a message of polite regard, to be handed to the regional Prince, upon his annual arrival to their realm, as was her social duty. Instead, her folly of feeling, her romantic daydreams had won out, upon thinking of the Prince’s bold visage, often compared to the hunting ferocity of a falcon.
~~~
TWO
Drawing forth another parchment, Kyzaira poised her proper pen ~ the red ink a shade nearing the ruby glints in wine. She sighed at the dreariness of the message she was supposed to write. With her head propped up on one hand, she forced the words upon the page. It sustained her soul that she decided to continue loosing her true desires on the red-scrolled leafs of her journal. She straightened, sighing with longing and regret. About to replace her pen, a rush of wind from her balcony snatched at the two parchments, sweeping them onto the floor, out of reach.
At the same moment Bellari, her delivery dove, landed before her. Bellari cocked her sweet head with expectation and extended one creamy-colored wing, impatient to be on her way. “As you wish,” Kyzaira crooned, stroking her feathers with a single fingertip. Bending over, she swiftly recovered the parchments. Kyzaira placed them before her and plucked up the red ribbon tie. Uncurling one, she blew a breath of relief at seeing it was the correct message. With practiced ease she rolled the small piece of parchment tight. Securing it neatly with the red ribbon, she hooked it onto Bellari’s leg band.
Kyzaira cupped her palms for Bellari, then gently carried her to the flight window. After pressing a delicate kiss on the dove’s head, she launched her into the air. The natural updrafts beneath the window assisted the fleetness of her beating wings and she soared ever higher, vanishing within the rose-tinted sunbeams. Dancing her steps, Kyzairia whirled, returning to her desk. “Oh, no,” silently fell from her lips as she glimpsed the darker red ink. Rapidly, she uncurled the parchment. Her heart landed on her toes, then beat with a terrible ferocity. Somehow, her impassioned poetry flew to the Prince.
Romancing Flash Fiction ~ The Heart's Misunderstanding
Truthfully, I have no idea how or when what is currently called Flash Fiction came into being, or who wrote the first one. My first introduction to the creative challenge and extreme pleasure of penning 100 word Flashes began with Flash Fiction Sunday on the Liquid Silver SEx blog.
I was tentative about joining in the outrageous fun, at first, having no idea how to write one. While I haven’t really gotten into Sunday’s cyber-wild party of Chippendale dancers and free-flowing tequila that often goes along with the flash-ing, I have definitely discovered a niche for myself ~ what I call Serial Flashing. Or writing a scene or a story in 100, 150 or 500 word installments.
Flashes are not, obviously, limited to those word counts. It’s whatever size floats your creative talented boat.
Currently I have a Serial Flash in Two Hundred that I began last December 26, titled ~ Happy Courtship on Another Earth ~ which is still running on the
Liquid Silver forum and is written 200 words at a time, each day. First, I write the heroine’s voice, then the hero’s voice. I began it as an experiment to find out the response and because I enjoy creating Sylva and Zeke’s love story... boy! do I enjoy creating their Wild West meets modern times, alternative timeline story. Right now, I’m up to Part 122, or 14,400 words.
For this blog, I thought I’d share my flash from last Sunday, with an added two flashes... because it’s a happily ever after theme common in romance novels, especially of ye olden days when I began reading them. Part of the inspiration that flickered before my mind’s eye was Rhett’s love for Scarlett in Gone With the Wind... what would have happened if... well, if several things were different, including the culture itself. Although, to add, the heroine and hero do not resemble Vivien Leigh or Clark Gable.
The Heart’s Misunderstanding
ONE
Giddy with happiness, she raced down the long staircase. Surely wings were attached to her slippered feet. Pausing at the bannister, she caught her breath. He was here, waiting for her in the reception room. Terrance, the love of her life. She’d seen his personal coach from her balcony. At last evening’s ball, he’d hinted at his arrival this day. Her diaphanous daygown whispered around her ankles as she floated forward. What would she say when he asked for her hand in marriage? How would she say her acceptance? Would she smile demurely, or would her tears erupt in joy.
TWO
Terrance spun around on the heel of his superb cavalry boots, a wide smile on his solid handsome face. His gaze beamed with the strength of several suns. “Oh, Terrance,” she breathed out her heart. Kalvesta rushed toward him and swore her feet felt like hummingbirds’ wings. She halted as swiftly when he suddenly frowned, his countenance resembling the quiet before a storm. “What is it?” fell from her lips.
“Kalvesta, my sweet one.” He moved to her, grasping her hands inside his. “It was your sister, Lolenda, I asked to join me.” He paused, compassion owning his gaze. “I am sorry.”
THREE
Kalvesta’s world whirled and crashed around her. If she had been a tower she would have crumbled into unrecognizable dust. “I, I am sorry.” She stuttered over her words and felt everything inside her die. Her heart stopped and refused to start. Still, she noticed its tiny resilient thump inside her chest. How do I remain standing, she wondered. A terrible bubble of silence surrounded her and suddenly she could see nothing. “Please, do not let Lolenda know I was here.” Tearing her hands from Terrance’s kind grip, she fled. On instinct she found the garden doors and flew outside.
FOUR
Dhaldago unfolded his arms, observing the woman he wanted with a ferocity that owned his soul, burst out the tall ornate door – as he had surmised would occur, once she discovered Terrance had arrived for her sister. Her lovely delicate shoulder had been coldly shown to him every time he’d made the slightest courting advance. Now, she would be his. He had carefully spoken his desire to her parents, gaining their consent. Although, it was his right to boldly take her in marriage, since her sister was the younger of the two. Shoving away from the stone wall, he sprinted.
FIVE
Keeping a falcon eye on his Kalvesta, Dhaldago marveled at her fleetness of foot. Yet, wasn’t that one reason for his loin’s passion? Her female form was all fragile sumptuousness while her spirit in whatever sport she played was savagely glorious, and more often than not, she triumphed. Gaining on her, he watched her jerk to a halt beneath a weeping willow tree. Her small hand flattened on the trunk before she doubled over, crumpling onto the ground. Not caring how much she loathed him, Dhaldago raced to her. Before she could react, he scooped her up into his arms.
SIX
“What are you doing?” Flames owned her tongue. Still, she remained stunned and too emotionally weak to struggle against his hold as he strode with her along the path.
“My coach awaits for you, my intended bride.” He glanced downward, glimpsing her sea-sensual eyes, now huge pools of shocked realization.
“No.” He felt the force of her whisper.
“Yes. I have right of marriage.”
“I will despise you forever!”
“Your hatred is preferred over life without you, beautiful woman.”
“How can that be?” she fired on him with her tone. He acknowledged the scorch of her strike.
“Simple. I want you.”
SEVEN
“You are a fool just as I am a fool.” Her tone demonstrated she gave no quarter to herself. “I am betrayed by my own unreliable heart. You are betrayed by your baser desires,” she charged.
“Forgive my frankness so early in our life together, my precious Kalvesta, you know nothing of my heart, nor my soul... nor my baser desires.”
Dhaldago continued his long rapid strides, his obsidian-colored coach in sight now. The gold trim and his dynastic crest subtly gleamed in the lesser light of Autumn. The six elegant, yet substantial-bodied horses displayed eagerness, restless in their harnesses.
EIGHT
Their dark golden coats shimmered more brightly than his door crest.
“I must assume I will soon know your baser desires despite my unwillingness.”
Her pride and her trembling little fright of him sliced to his heart as if his chest had been opened by a battle axe. Still, his passion for her ruled.
“Oh, I shall cause your explicit and exceptional willingness,” Dhaldago darkly promised.
She thrust up her delicate and defiant chin, pretending to ignore him. Catching sight of his coach and horses, she started, then stared. “They are lovely as heaven,” she burst out softly. “Your horses.”
