Poetry is a great outlet for emotions you shouldn't keep pent up. In my line of work, I work with a lot of teens and college students. Can you say DRAMA?
Several years ago, I worked with a group of young ladies who could have been in line for the Drama Queen award. Oh, some of it was real, some for attention and some for the competitive edge - you know, my problem is worse than yours. All this made for some rocky evenings at work.
I've always been the one the kids came to for advice and help, The emotional toll at times was more than I wanted to carry around.
The situations that never failed to get to me are when the girl/guy likes a guy/girl and is afraid to doing anything about it. You may not know it to glance at them, but if you really look, you can see in their eyes that they have their own private drama going on.
So, one day, I was driving down the road, heading to work. This one poem came to me so quickly that when I arrived at work, I wrote it on a piece of scrap paper and stuck it in a visor. Over the next few months, it seemed like I was doing more poetry writing than story writing.
I realized one day when I ran into an old friend, that she used to be one of these 'wear your heart on the sleeve' girls. Every generation of teens have the same issues, same drama and there are always going to be that one or two who experiences unrequited love. Even my oldest son went through it. It's all timeless, so last year, I put 43 of these poems together in a book titled, LOVE, Stalker of the Heart. Others will come out, at some point, in a different collection.
Here are a couple of poems from this collection.
WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE
There you are
At the stop sign
Our eyes meet
I'm mesmerized by your smile
You wave; I wave
Moments pass, you turn
What's it going to take
To break the barrier
Are you really satisfied
Are these chance meetings
Always going to be all there is
What's it going to take
You have to feel it too
I can't be alone in wonder
Do I force the issue
And, chance losing what there is
What's it going to take
---
CONFUSION AMIDST
Why does it happen
I think of you often
Wherever I go there you are
I sleep and you're in my dreams
I don't understand why
Or what it's supposed to mean
Something has to give
Can't you help me make sense
My heart aches, it doesn't know
If it's supposed to turn away
Or, try to take what I can't have
What you don't want to give
I don't want to hurt you
Some how, a way must be found
To find a way we both can survive
Our souls were meant to be together
Sorting out right and wrong
Could cost us the magic
That could keep us suspended
Searching for what's right here

The Year of the Romantic Heart... Be kiss-ready...

TWO is the number of relationship and romance in numerology. February is the month of TWO, thus, absolutely perfect for Valentine’s Day. I’m telling you the Love Goddess, whether you call her Venus or Aphrodite, knows the art of planning and encouraging romance. And she has her celestial divine ways.
Yes, this is the year to ~~~ Be kiss-ready ~~~
I rarely pays attention to most TV commercials anymore. For one reason I find most of them tediously boring. I do keep one eye *sort of* open simply to keep track of evolving cultural trends, which has always been a fascination for me. So, here I was penning a bloggie for my Kougar Kisses blog and I hear in the background *be kiss-ready* ... how sweetly and passionately perfect for this Year of the love number Two.Now, the couple in the commercial, while cute in a teenage way... has little to do with the true possibilities and pleasures of being *kiss-ready* ~~~ for, what if you could look forward to delicious sweet and wild kisses from the lover of your choice everyday...what if...what if your lover bestowed your favorite kisses everyday and craved that time when you would bestow their favorite kisses...
Tell me, how much would that improve the love quality of your life?
On a global scale, how much would that improve the world for all us???
You betcha, a whole darn lot. If people were smooching up a passionate storm, how many would really care about fighting wars, for example?
And, how much fun could life be and become, if you and your beloved are always *kiss-ready* for each other?
Gals and guys, I say make it your sweetest goal this year to *be kiss-ready” ~~~
******
Since I remembered, this is a poem I wrote about thirteen years ago, about how just one kiss can transform a person’s life. I wrote it for the beginning of my first novella, Savage Gameswoman, so be kind...it was awhile ago.
Whose soul
has not been
transformed by the perfect kiss?
The first kiss beyond innocense–
The passion-ruled kiss without end–
The terrible soft kiss of farewell–
Whose life
has not turned
upon a kiss?
Each kiss we heart-soaring treasure–
Each torrid-sparking kiss that ignites the flesh–
Each kiss of promised sweetest love–
Whose heart
was never changed
upon a lip-honey kiss?
The remembered rapture of rolling kisses–
The night kisses of imagination’s fire–
I ask you!
Whose journey
was never altered
upon one kiss?
***
Oh, and reading romance novels could definitely be a kiss-ready aid. I’ll confess something that’s probably obvious. I love watching couples kiss...the movies, TV shows, and for real...especially when the kiss or kisses are from the heart. And as an author, I sigh over writing those kisses...no matter how sweet and tender or how passionate and scorching.

My hero in When a Good Angel Falls, Volcano, is what is known as a carnal cherub. That is, he can operate in either the mortal or immortal realms. Since he’s here on Earth, albeit in 2012, with his heroine, Sedona, he gives me his angelic forecast each week. This one is about LOVE and the number 2 ~

Angelic Forecast ~ XXII
“Okay,” I murmur, “the 2's definitely have it. Here.” I feel astounded to say the cosmic-least, as I stare THE NUMBERS. All the numbers.
“Two, the magical and mystical I love you.” The Heavenly One has popped out of the ethers beside me.
“It must be all about love,” I say, entranced by the sight of Venus, hanging high above the western horizon, and so amazingly bright in the night sky, I can scarcely believe it.
“February, the second month, ushers in new horizons for love...for being loved.”
Suddenly a glistening shower of itsy bitsy pink hearts fall before my eyes.

The timeless poetry of love
Have you ever written a love poem? Or received a love poem? I have. Poetry and love go together. Both are intense, powerful and vivid, heightening all the senses. Images of the beloved linger in the mind like the lines of well-remembered verse.
"The wild goose flies up and soars,
She sinks down upon the net.
The birds cry in flocks,
But I hasten homeward,
Since I care for your love alone."
Like love itself, poetry is old. I believe that as soon as we could speak, we composed poetry. By the time of the New Kingdom in ancient Egypt, 3000 years ago, love poetry was an accepted literary form. The man would call the woman "sister" and she call him "Brother" as expressions of intimacy. Each would speak of their longing and delight, using images of nature, trees and flowers."I am thy first sister. I am unto thee like a garden, which I have planted with flowers and with all manner of sweet-smelling herbs."
"Shedeh-wine it is, my hearing of thy voice, and I live because I hear it."
Reading such words, I am transported to the Nile and the young lovers, the man and woman who longed for each other and who adorned themselves with garlands and perfumes as each waited for the beloved to appear.
Truly, another magic of love.
