Envisioning Beautiful Worlds for Romance Novels

Middleton Place Plantation in South Carolina

The idea for this post began with a blog I wrote on Kougar Kisses, my personal bloggie, back on August 6. Here is a portion rewritten for this post.

Creating Beautiful Worlds...the Kougaress had an intriguing insight earlier today. At least, intriguing to her. It becomes more important, in fact crucial to create beautiful worlds.

As romance writers a lot of us know that urge to ‘create a beautiful world’ for our heroines and heroes. Whether that means the HAPPILY EVER AFTER, or world-building another realm as in sci fi. Maybe we dream up a far-away fantasy place. Oh, the exquisite possibilities we have as writers. Our imagination is allowed to take flight, to surpass the boundaries of reality as we know it, as we live it everyday.

This Big Cat believes humanity instinctively has an innate drive, a need to create beauty. An obvious example is art in all of its glorious expressions. Art has always been with humanity, ala the prehistoric cave paintings. Another classic example, to the Kougaress’s mind, is the fairytale wedding mania of the nineties. Beaucoup bucks have been spent on that perfect day, as if for a short time, a beautiful world could be created, one that would last a lifetime in a world where trials and tribulations are the norm.

This desire to create beautiful worlds, to escape into a beautiful fantasy world, will only dramatically increase in the upcoming times. One, because of the harsh realities most of us are facing. And, two, because, it’s time. Time to bring forth our personal visions of a beautiful world.
~~~
Envisioning Beautiful Worlds
Beauty feeds and nourishes our souls. As writers we are able to give this gift to those who read our books.
I’ve envisioned beautiful worlds ever since I can remember. The stories my parents read to me at a young age were the beginning. My imagination spun with the images evoked by fairytales, and other children’s books. Being highly visual, the illustrations also inspired my flights of fancy into these beautiful realms.
Later, when I began reading all the non-fiction and fiction horse books, like The Black Stallion by Walter Farley, that I could get my little grubby hands on, I not only envisioned beautiful worlds filled with horses, but I began daydreaming about how to create my fantasy worlds for real.
As a child, I wanted to create a beautiful world of my own. Desperately. The urge became so strong it burned bright and fierce inside me all of the time.
Of course, the more I learned growing up, and the more I experienced life, the more complex these ‘romantic and beautiful worlds’ became. Often they lived within my imagination as real, more real than everyday life, especially during the nineties.
These worlds I daydreamed about, some of them were the dreams I wanted to bring about for real. Over the years, I’ve fought for my dreams, lived for them. However, that’s another story.
At this point in time, I have no idea how many of my romantic fantasy realms are stored inside my mental hope chest, and are my current WIPs...hundreds, at least. Most of them will never see the light of day, unless I pen them into full existence -- world-build them in my paranormal erotic romance novels as a finished book.
I should add a bit of a correction here because I do have one ‘sweet’ romance written. However, it’s so different, I don’t know what to do with it.
Even though, my romances are character driven, my stories are always based on a beautiful world or worlds -- my ideas about them, of course. This happens in several ways. There is the potential to bring one forth. The heroines and heroes are saving their beloved land, and their way of life. Or, my happily-ever-after couple lives in a thriving, full of life society, and this is their love story.
To world-build these beautiful realms is challenging, a joy, and very hard work. I constantly ask myself, or my muse...what does it feels like -- the society, the day-to-day activities, life in this particular OtherWorld, this OtherRealm, this OtherTime?
As authors, the question often becomes: How do we create beautiful worlds -- this includes ALL of the romance subgenres -- for our books? Or, how do we bring them forth from our imagination, and onto the page?
For some of us it’s a natural ability, even though it ain’t easy at times. One approach is to look at the dreams of your childhood. What was it that made you feel radiant inside, that lit your soul, your face?
As a teenager, what kind of world did you fantasize about, and long for so much it hurt? So much you made plan after endless plan?
Right now, what are those ‘beautiful worlds’ living inside your imagination, the ones that resonate with you the most? Start there, and your story will unfold.
~~~

As an example of how I’ve envisioned a beautiful world, here’s an erotic-romance Flash Scene I wrote for this past Valentine’s Day between Volcano and Sedona, my hero and heroine in WHEN A GOOD ANGEL FALLS.

Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2014

The rose, in full bloom, landed in her palm. Sedona felt the prick of thorns as she gripped the stem in reaction. Transfixed by the radiant scarlet rose, she stared, barely aware of the tiny pain.

Lost in the spiral of gorgeous petals, Sedona noticed the heavenly heady fragrance moments later, when it wafted inside her nostrils. An appreciative sigh sang from her. Lifting the rose, Sedona inhaled its scent more deeply. Her eyelids drifted shut and she dreamily soared inside.

“Volcano,” she whispered with her lips brushing the petals.

My angel woman. His telepathic voice trembled her with desire.

Playing cupid? Sedona mentally teased her words though him.

My arrow is only for you. The image of his ready cock filled her mind’s eye.

Oh, my cupid, I want to stroke your wings. I want to kiss each feather tip. I want –

With a loud whoosh, Volcano’s powerful essence vortexed around Sedona. A firestorm of pleasure captured every inch of her body, and she moaned.

Yes, smolder me, you naughty cupid. Until I surrender to the launch of your boldest arrow.

Even as the scorch of orgasmic rapture seized her mound, and spiraled upward, Sedona felt herself lifted from the floor. Her carnal cherub carried her with his incredible force. Somewhere.

All Sedona knew was that she traveled light-fast through the ethers, as her molecules blissfully entwined with his. Yet, strange to her senses, she still felt the prick of the rose thorns.

Barely steady on her feet, Sedona heard, Your Valentine’s Day surprise, my woman.

The press of Volcano’s kisses covered her body like a phantom lover, as she blinked her eyes open. She certainly didn’t stand in the front room of their mountain cabin anymore.

“Oh, Volcano...” Hardly daring to believe it, Sedona gasped. With her hands flying to her throat, she murmured, “Straight out of Gone With the Wind. Like the plantation mansion of Tara.”

Sedona’s astonishment was an ecstasy unto itself, as she slowly turned, taking in the lavishly appointed ballroom. The crystal chandeliers and gilt-framed mirrors sparkled in afternoon’s sunlight. Dark red velvet drapes added to the room’s elegance, as did the taper candles waiting to be lit.

With her senses staggered, Sedona took her time, gazing at everything. How long ago had it been when she’d revealed her youthful, twenty-something dream to him?

They’d been in bed, cuddled in each other’s arms. She’d been leafing through an old magazine they’d discovered in a trunk. Inside were photos of a replica, pre-civil war southern mansion -- the exterior and the interior.

After her spontaneous gurgles of delight, Volcano had questioned her. Shoving away her sadness, Sedona had talked about her dream to create a back-in-time resort based on this period in time.

Do you like it? We cupids aim to please.

Maybe it should be Rhett instead of cupid. Sedona hugged herself, and knew her eyes shone with anticipation.

Before her mind’s eye, Volcano performed a rakish bow.

Are we dancing soon, Rhett Volcano?

Soon, my beloved. The Divine Council meeting is progressing well.

The pups? she asked, concerned about their two dogs.

In seconds, Aru and his mate appeared before her. After quizzical looks at her, they gave her doggie smiles, then began their canine exploration.

Volcano’s ephemeral kiss touched her forehead, a temporary farewell. Your gown is upstairs, my Sedona, inside our bedroom.

With her heart lighter than air, and trip–trip tripping rapidly, Sedona rushed toward the splendid staircase. Reaching the first step, she raced upward, the rose still clutched in her hand.

Christmas Eve Magic

Tiny, before kindergarten age, I had no idea what Christmas was all about, only that there were yummy new things to eat and it caused lots of excitement, especially my parents who put up the real fragrant-special tree and eagerly talked about Santa Clause. My dad’s blue eyes glowed with a happiness I will always treasure and remember that night before Christmas. Well, it was just me and my younger sister then, sitting with my dad while he, dramatic as a poet actor, read Twas the night before Christmas to us.

My teensy imagination lit up like the bulbs on the tree, before lightbulbs twinkled, when you had to figure out which one had gone bad on the string and replace it before the tree would be bright with colored light again.

On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen! Those immortal words are what I remembered most about the poem that Christmas eve night. Santa Claus and his reindeer, the magnificent reindeer...More rapid than eagles his coursers they came...in my imagination I could see them flying through the night sky, the snowflakes whirling ‘round them. They looked magical, these elegant beasts with branch-like antlers. And I felt magical, light as air, all tingly fizzy inside.

I swear that poem danced in my head as we set out the hot chocolate and cookies for Santa. My eyes were filled with twinkling stars while my dad assured us that Santa would somehow make it down the chimney we didn’t have in our GI bill ranch house. I still remember heading off to bed bouncing on my tippy toes.

Kissed goodnight and tucked in, I imagined Santa in his miniature sleigh with his eight tiny reindeer flying toward us, much better than dreaming about sugar plums. And soon I heard them...the pawing and prancing of each little hoof...on my very own rooftop. Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! Santa called to his reindeer team. I heard it plain as day.

It was so real, their hooves on my roof, I woke up to the loud jingling of sleigh bells, like the ones you hear on the horse harnesses as they pull the sleigh over the snow to grandma’s house. Springing out of bed, I ran outside to a beautiful white blanket of snow, so cold on my bare feet. Santa had landed on my roof.

He waved, stepping out of the old-fashioned handsomely-carved sleigh. Prancing spiritedly on that new fallen snow were Santa’s life-size reindeer decorated in the red leather finery of their harnesses. They were exquisite creatures, their fragile-looking legs, their thick brown coats glistening with snowflakes, the drifting flakes falling from the black heavens. Their faces were noble, their eyes large and brilliant as they looked down at me.

I remember being entranced by the regal tangle of their antlers. And I wondered what it would be like to ride on one of their backs as they soared through night. Santa shouted down to me, a jolly voice reminding me he couldn’t deliver his gifts until I was back in bed.

The next morning when I dashed outside to see my dad, who was fiddling with the outdoor lights, I was surprised to see no blanket of snow, only short brown grass. But I simply ignored that tiny detail and exuberantly told my dad I knew Santa was real because I had seen him last night.

Despite my dad’s rather puzzled expression I went on to tell him about hearing the prancing hooves on the roof, about running outside and seeing Santa and all his reindeer. I think he tried to tell me it was dream. But I was so insistent in all my glorious detail, he ended up nodding and smiling. And not spoiling anything for me. Thank you, Dad.

And no one, not any playground gossiper or any kid’s cruel attempt to spoil Christmas for me, could ever convince me Santa wasn’t real. After all, I had seen Santa and his sleigh full of toys, and his reindeer...oh, his majestic reindeer too. In fact, I may have turned a few kids back to the magic of Christmas simply because I believed. I truly believed.

Until, okay, seventh grade. Laugh if you want. That’s okay. I had a Christmas spirit then, that I still treasure to this day. It was magic. It was pure magic instilled into me for a lifetime.

That lucid dream was absolutely real to me, as real as anything I have ever experienced since. That enchanted dream still feels as if I lived it, and remains as vivid inside my mind as any memory.

I originally wrote this post, back in December 2007, as part of a Christmas eve blog for Title Magic. And, as I penned I realized like a flash, tore open the shutters and threw up the sash...that I hoped the paranormal and otheworldly romance novels I was writing would be as movie-screen vivid, as magical and magnificently real for readers, as my Santa lucid dream was for me.

Just in time for Christmas, Christmas 2012, that is...

What happens ‘When a Good Angel Falls’ ?

Being an avid listener of Coast-to-Coast am, night talk radio, famous for its paranormal topics ~ the subject of 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar ~ is one of the hottest conversations going, and only gets hotter as we come closer and closer to what some people refer to as the endtimes.

So, what if? What will occur on that magical and mystical winter solstice date of December 21, 2012 ~ that final day of the Mayan calendar?

My novel When a Good Angel Falls, answers that question with Sedona and Volcano’s unusual love story.

Interracial Romance ~ Not Always What You Think

Prejudice against those who are merely different, not only rears its ugly head between different races of humans, but also, as I found out... well, my hero, Volcano, who is known as a carnal cherub in his realm, isn’t supposed to be with Sedona, my human heroine, even if she is an incarnated angel. It’s ‘oooh-ick’ according to some.

Of course, all of us have a right to our opinions. We have a right to our feelings. And when we’re reading a romance, we have a right to be as prejudice as we want. Sexual desire and attraction is what it is. Who and what turns us on, is who and what turns us on.

So, it doesn’t hurt my feelings if a reader decides any of my books are not to be found on their reading list. However, I don’t think there’s any need to get personal about it. After all, what may be ‘oooh-ick’ and disgusting to you, may be what floats someone else’s romantic boat. It may be their erotic romance fantasy come true.

That’s part of the beauty of the human race, we are all individuals.

August 13, 2010 was the two year anniversary of Sedona and Volcano’s love story, WHEN A GOOD ANGEL FALLS. Last year I wrote their first anniversary scene. And, this year, I didn’t resist...not too much. I was hoping, though, *silly, silly me* that writing their new love/passion scene wouldn’t be like tearing my brain cells out.

Okay, so it was... but, at least, I had weeks to work on it rather than one night. Why these two scenes have been two of the most difficult I’ve ever penned, I have no idea. And, yes, this scene is X-RATED.

Mars, Here We Come

December 21, 2014

Awed, Sedona murmured, “It isn’t a dream.”

“No, my angel woman. We’re flying through the celestial skies.”

Their small crystalline ship slipped through the ether mist, a field of energy thinly blanketing the material realm. Volcano had created the ship for interplanetary travel. The castle-looking structure sustained both their physical bodies and their spiritual essence, and kept them in a balanced state.

“Now this is my idea of traveling in space.” From the corner of her eye, Sedona watched Volcano rotate his palms over two shining crystal obelisks, fine-tuning their resonance with each other.

“Sedona, my beloved, do you know how often I dreamed of you when I was away on mission?”

“No.” The breathy squeak almost lodged in her throat. She swallowed convulsively, not seeing anything for seconds.

“My love.” His voice swept around her, a sweet wind caressing her everywhere.

“I missed you so terribly.” She felt each word pour from her heart as her tears had fallen. Unlike many of her cherub’s divine missions, there had been no telepathic communication between them. No dream-walking with each other.

Aru, their precious dog, had climbed onto her lap often, tears leaking from the corner of his eyes as she stroked him. Now, Aru visited with Volcano’s best buddy in the sacred realm, Jorque, a large canine shapeshifter.

“Whenever I closed my eyes to commune, I dreamed of you instead, my Sedona. The High Council Masters were not amused.” Volcano chuckled, his laughter jovial yet purely masculine.

“Yet, your Good prevailed?” Sedona knew in her spirit he had triumphed. However, the human side of her still wanted to hear him say it.

“Yes. Soon I will properly regale you with the story. We will make manna buttered popcorn.”

His tone promised and teased both, as he loved doing with her.

“This time I get to add the butter,” Sedona tossed, her tone a match to his.

Within a moment, she saw the image Volcano mind-sent of them holding each other in front of their cabin’s roaring fireplace. She smiled, but didn’t wing it inside his mind. A series of harp-like musical tones let her know he focused on increasing their speed.

Enthralled by the prism-colored stars blazing toward them, Sedona didn’t hear Volcano’s steps until he’d moved behind her.

“Mars, here we come.”

His irresistible rasp seduced her to stormfire surrender, as Sedona liked to think of it. Volcano wrapped his arms around her in that way she adored, and Sedona sighed, happiness filling her like the pink radiance of a sunrise. She leaned back into his embrace while he pulled her flush against his sinfully sexy body. Bending to her ear, he sensually enticed the rim with his nose.

Sparks of pleasure danced through Sedona, and she moaned. “Insatiable carnal cherub,” she mock complained.

“At your service, my beautiful woman.”

“Mmmm... I can feel your ‘service’. Beastly impressive.”

Languidly writhing against him, Sedona indulged in his hard masculine frame. She let her arm have its way reaching back to hug his neck. Stroking her palm over his nape several times, she then kneaded the strong column with a leisurely sensuality.

“Wait till I get you on Cydonia.” His growl revved up her desire to the flight speed of his super-cycle.

“What is so erotically special about Mars?”

Arching against him, Sedona looped her arm around his neck, and hugged. The feel of his hands spanning her waist, and caressing, caused her to ache for more of their torrid-tangling passions, despite the previous wild night of lovemaking.

“Unique pleasures will be yours, my woman.”

Palming her breasts, he molded possessively, his hands sliding over the satiny, paper-thin fabric of her bodysuit.

“Volcano.” His name left her lips as a whisper, then became mere breath. Her head lolled back and Sedona lost herself to the molten scorch that owned her loins, then seized her sex.

Red light penetrated her eyelids. Sedona straightened fast, opening her eyes. A ruby brilliance had enveloped them.

“We’re here.” Volcano shaped her sides, her waist with his hands, the kind of seductive strokes that ignited her.

“Here?” Sedona caressed his hands, her love for him gushing from her as it always did. An arch formed before them like a magically conjured ice sculpture. Splinters of crimson light winked inside, a galaxy of them. Drinking in the enchantment, she paused, yet gave into her curiosity. “I mean I know we’ve landed on Mars. But where in Cydonia are we?”

“It’s a surprise. Think of this as our first official honeymoon, my angel woman.”

Volcano swept her upward, and into his embrace so swiftly, Sedona’s arms flew around his neck. Briefly his mouth savaged hers with a kiss that left her reeling, and, of course, only wanting more. So much more.

Once he carried her through the fantastical archway, melodies drifted around them like breezes. Delicate flights and fancies of music harmonized in an unusual way, sounding like the marriage of a flute and harp

“Ooooh... I feel like the music is on my skin... this is trippy ethereal.” Sedona reached out for the notes. “Butterflies... invisible wings brushing me. That’s what it feels like. Oh, Volcano.”

He spun with her, the movement of his body carefree, powerfully joyous. Sedona stretched her torso, then flung her arms out, surrendering. Melodies stroked her bare arms becoming like tiny ecstatic kisses.

“Saturday night fever on Mars, my dancing queen.” Volcano continued whirling her as if they disco-danced together, one of his favorite Earth date nights.

“My John Travolta on clouds,” she sang to him, once he halted and clasped her close.

Their gazes merged and held as she slid down his sculpted frame. Inside their own bubble of loveliest intimacy, they looked into each others’ eyes, their love flowing, shining, a relentless rapturous force that could never be anything but endless.

Moving in concert, they leaned closer touching noses. With the tenderest of caresses, they cherished each other. Until, finally, their lips gently met and they kissed, a long sensual fondling of each others’ lips.

After parting their mouths, Volcano speared his fingers into her hair cupping her head with his palm. “Did you know Mars is a tactile planetary culture?”

His smoldering rasp zinged straight to her sex mound causing a delicious throb. “Tactile?” she murmured, unable to catch her breath.

His fingers combed through her waist-length hair with a sensuality she found utterly luxurious. “Touch. Every sensation of touch is here, Sedona darling.”

“That turn-me-on voice of yours is doing a lot of touching, alright.” Like strings on a musical instrument, every molecule of her quivered, vibrated with passion. “You’re inside of me. And outside of me. Volcano... your voice...”

“Touch is especially amplified in Cydonia.” With a gallant move, he dipped her, as he did whenever they danced. Tantalizingly, his mouth hovered above hers as she remained draped over his arm. “You will remember the feel, the touch of everything we do here.”

She tightened her hold on his neck, basking in the feel of his “Oh, tell me more, great cherub one.”

Frowning because she’d naughtily teased him by calling him ‘great cherub one’, Volcano slid his palms down her back and gripped her ass. His hands tightened with a dominance that always excited Sedona.

Around them, a symphonic storm suddenly raged. The ruddy light flamed with an intensity that made Volcano look like her ancient-god lover. Within their depths, his dark purple eyes sparked blistering her with the power of his passion.

Sedona adored it. Seared to a fiercer need, her arousal soared. Lithe and liquid, she undulated against him pressing closer. “What you do to me... what I want you to do. Wherever we are, since you haven’t told me precisely where.”

“This is a temple, my woman. It was constructed using acoustic technology and the art of magic three thousand years ago.”

That floored her. Yet, within an instant, there was no floor. Waves of fiery crimson light held them suspended while sweetly scalding notes of music seemed to burn away their garments. In instants, they were naked.

Volcano embraced her as if they slow danced. “Sedona, my beloved, my beauty.”

Their bodies mated, skin against skin, her curves belonging to him. The illumination changed as they twined around each other. Bright scarlet luminosity held them like a gentle ocean and they floated. Immersed in one another, they joined souls, and embraced in that eternal way of all lovers.

Yet, not as carnal woman and man, even though the thick hot spear that was his cock nestled against her belly.

Rapture possessed Sedona, feeling new, as though she’d never experienced such heights before. Every particle of her felt kissed, cherished.

“I love you.” The words came easier now. She’d had such trouble saying them for so long, despite the depth of her heart for him. “I love you, Volcano.”

His smile answered her, a warm beam of ecstasy pouring inside her. A sea of gorgeous red illumination pulsed and flashed, reminding Sedona of Valentine’s day.

“Do you know, my angel woman, the human body remembers every touch, and remembers the feel of everything?”

“My body remembers the touch and feel of you. The slightest brush of your wings –“

Before she’d finished her words, Volcano captured her hips, his hold primitive. With a savage undulation of his torso, he thrust his brutally hard cock inside her welcoming sheath.

Like the mighty warrior he was, Volcano commanded her pleasures with each lunge. Indescribable sensations of bliss swirled through her. Sedona clenched his shaft tight and sank her nails into his shoulders. Her eyes remained open as blasts of scarlet light sang against her skin.

With each powerful strike of his cock, Volcano claimed her, body and soul. His bold taking of her ignited her primal fires beyond what Sedona had known. Wanting him with an impossible wildness, she drove her heels into his ass, giving him more access to her pussy.

Relentless, fierce as a raging thunderstorm, he repeatedly plunged to her core. Bolts of flaming ruby lashed her flesh. Music flowed over her skin, lush and forceful as buffeting winds. There was only the two of them. Their passion. Their intimacy with each other. Their world together.

An explosive ache seized her clit as Volcano continued launching his shaft upwards. Pleasure consumed her, red and ripe as cherries.

Volcano joined her, his cock buried deep. Their mutual orgasmic screams remained silent. Instead, orchestral notes thundered around them, mirroring the ecstasy of their climaxes.

Locked together as one, they entered the realm where time vanished. His rapture pummeled her magnificently, then entwined around the radiance of her bliss.

Back and forth, they sent their sacred essence to each other.

Melodic tones, both exalted and savage as jungle drums, embraced them, a reflection of their carnal union. Within the same moments, scarlet jewel-like facets formed, encircling them.

Sedona wrapped herself around her man. Aglow with their union, feeling soft as Volcano’s clouds, she merged her gaze with his. “Talk about an erupting volcano... Volcano.”

His answering smile glistened as it always did when she lovingly teased him. This time though, as he tightened his arms around her, a firestorm in shades of red ringed them.

“My woman. My mystic fire rose.”

Wild happiness bubbled through her. “You’re in my rose, cherub beast.”

“Always. Even when I am away from you.”

Her heart winged toward him. Her love, transformed to red rose light, swirled around him like ripples on a pond. “Yes, you live inside me. Always, my warrior.”

“Saving the heavenly universe, one world at a time.” His bantering tone teased her, even as his ruthlessly hard body pleased her. As quick, his countenance altered, his gaze becoming serious. “We, my Sedona, save the heavenly worlds.”

“Yes, we.” With her love singing from her soul, Sedona caressed her fingers through his dark mane of hair.

“Remember, my Sedona, our love here. Whenever I must leave for a time, remember.”

She watched his eyes turn powerfully luminous. His features were carved with a bronze resplendence that astounded her. “I will,” she whispered.

Volcano fused their lips in a kiss that might as well have been the beat of their hearts for each other. Once their mouths tenderly parted, the delicate feel of petals touched her skin as if she lay in a bed of roses.

Stunned by the sensation, Sedona glanced around. An immense, unbelievably exquisite red rose embraced them, the petals distinct, huge and glorious. She inhaled a fragile fragrance, yet the rose’s perfume held notes of sensuality and sweetness and passion.

“How?” she murmured.

“Our love is this rose. All we feel for each other created what occurred between us here, my precious woman. This is a Mars temple of marriage.”

The Romance of Creamy Fruit Kisses

Yes, recipe fans, never fear, there is one in this *sweet heat level* scene between Sedona and Volcano, my heroine and hero in WHEN A GOOD ANGEL FALLS.

This is one of my favorite summer treats of all time. And, since, I like revisiting my Happily Ever After couples, I took advantage of the opportunity.
~~~
Summer, 2013
Sedona marveled at the bright, nearly blinding light of the late afternoon sun. Sol’s rays captured the mountaintops making them appear like a distant shimmering land, one inhabited by fairytale characters.
Smiling, she shaded her eyes and luxuriated in the full sunlight. Sedona still had trouble believing the Earth had recuperated this quickly from all of the horrors inflicted upon her.
Silently blessing the Mother, she closed her eyes and let Sol’s healing light saturate her entire body. Two decades ago, she’d been a sun worshiper of sorts – laying in the sun even though her skin was fair – spending lots of time outdoors, gardening.
Sedona spun in slow motion absorbing all the glorious, golden-tinted rays.
“My Sundance Angel,” Volcano crooned from the back door of their cozy cabin.
Halting, she gave him a flirtatious smile. After all the timbre of his voice did the most delightfully wicked things to her. “I know what you want, you bad boy cherub.”
“The sweet cream of your body beneath mine?”
His tease had her playfully rolling her shoulders and giving him a smirk. “No, you want the sweet cream fruit salad I promised to make.”
With a careless move, he folded his arms and leaned lazily against the door frame. His smile beamed toward her, brighter in its own way, than the lowering sun.
“You win. You win.” Sedona strode toward him, her steps feeling ethereal, as if she danced on sunbeams. “Is the manna scintillating?”
Volcano moved before her. A hunk to be reckoned with, he stopped her entry into the kitchen. “The manna store is open, my woman. I have set out the bowls and the mixer.”
“I’ll give you credit, you do make it easy to give you what you want. Now, get out of my way, unless you want me to kiss you senseless.” Sedona heard her tone as way too dreamy – not commanding at all. She frowned.
As he allowed her inside, Volcano’s gaze met hers. Their intimate feelings for each other flared, hot and intense.
“After.” His growled promise shuddered through her.
Pivoting smartly, Sedona walked toward the counter where the bowls waited. “Strawberries, fresh and plump, please.” Her eyes widened fast as she recalled how he’d passionately used the word strawberry during their lovemaking. She added, “Don’t you say it.”
“At your manna service, my Sedona.”
From the corner of her eye, she watched him wave his hand in a gallant fashion. The ripe red strawberries appeared before her. Their delectable perfume enticed her to sample, but she didn't.
Instead, she shut her eyes for an instant, inhaling, then picked up the knife and began slicing the berries into the largest bowl. Joining her, Volcano did his share. “I do love how helpful you are, Mr. Sexy Kitchen Man. Next, I need some manna pineapple...”
She’d barely spoken it before the gorgeous whole pineapple appeared. Volcano held it up for both of them to admire. Again, the sweet-as-candy smell had her breathing deeply, had her filling her nostrils.
Volcano set the prize pineapple on the cutting board, then swept up a large knife and in under a minute he had the yellow fruit exposed. Soon, they both cut the juicy strips into smaller pieces, adding them to the strawberries.
“Bananas,” Sedona instructed. She licked the scrumptious pineapple juice off her fingers.
Volcano’s heated gaze caught her mid-lick. “Bananas,” he repeated, all too meaningfully.
Caught off guard for seconds, she blinked. “If you want a satisfied banana later, behave.”
Grinning in that seductive way of his, the one Sedona adored, Volcano raised his hand and opened his palm. Two luscious ripe bananas appeared.
“That’s better.” Snatching the nearest one, Sedona peeled it. Slicing the beautiful length of fruit, she added the thin pieces to the main bowl. The banana’s aroma enchanted her as much as the combined scents of strawberry and pineapple. Uplifted by the sight and smell of the cut fruit, she sighed with happiness. “Oh, I am loving this manna fruit.”
“And I’m loving you,” Volcano huskily whispered near her ear.
“Oh, oooooh... you’re distracting a woman with a knife in her hand.”
“You whip the cream, my precious woman. I’ll cut up this banana.” Volcano gently removed the paring knife from her fingers, and they switched positions.
Mentally shaking herself, Sedona ignored her lusty yearnings. “The celestial cows do give the best cream.” Dipping in a fingertip, she relished the thickness, then tasted the tiny bit on the end of her finger. “Yum... even without the vanilla and honey in it yet.”
“Yum,” Volcano echoed in a rasp.
Making herself focus, Sedona took hold of the seventies style portable mixer, preparing to whip the cream. “Slice,” she reminded. ‘Oh, and add some cloud flavoring.”
“How about pink sunset cloud?”
“Yes, oh yes.” Turning the mixer on high, Sedona created her own brand of magic, patiently whipping the cream in the cold bowl as she’d done since her teenage years.
“Dribble some honey on the fruit and stir?” Volcano asked, reaching for the honey bear container they kept on the counter.
“Mind reader,” she accused. “Yes, please. Then you can put in a splash of vanilla. The cream is beginning to stiffen... just right.”
Keeping one eye on the peaking, snowy-white cream, Sedona observed the deft way Volcano stirred the fruit. “Perfect,” she praised, then lowered the mixer’s speed.
Volcano poured in about half a teaspoon of the pure vanilla they’d found in a deserted warehouse recently. “Ready for the honey, honey?” he playfully asked.
“Ready.” After slowing the mixer’s speed even more because the peaks had become noticeably higher, Sedona positioned the bowl for him. The thin line of dark golden honey Volcano carefully squeezed onto the cream gradually changed the color to a richer, slightly amber shade.
“Enough.” Sedona turned off the mixer and set it down. “I’ll give it the taste test.” Before she could scrape a bit from the edge of the bowl, Volcano held out his whipped cream covered fingertip.
“Bad, bad Mr. Kitchen Man,” she murmured throatily. The blaze of his dark purple eyes held her in sensual thrall as she slowly sucked the cream from his finger.
Cocooned by their passion, they gazed into each others' eyes, and remained motionless, that is, until Volcano leaned toward her. He pressed a swift sweet kiss on her lips.
Turning, he placed the bowl of ambrosia fruit near the whipped cream. “May I?”
Sedona reined in her rampant desires. “You’re so good at stirring, why not? However, you need to fold the cream into the fruit... like I showed you.”
Big spoon in hand, he waited for her to scoop out the whipped cream. Once she’d scraped the bowl clean with the soft spatula, he carefully blended the fruit and the whipped cream together.
As she watched, the whipped cream became delicate pink in color. Sedona loosed a sigh and allowed her good memories to surface. Once she'd released the beaters from the mixer, she took her time licking one of them clean.
“Done. And well done, handsome.” She offered the other beater to him.
With his usual irrepressible joy, Volcano made short work of it. He collected hers placing them both in the sink.
Sedona bent over the bowl and drew in the tantalizing ephemeral aromas of cream, strawberries, pineapple and bananas. “That does smell divine.”
“Heavenly because your love is one ingredient, my beautiful woman.” Volcano slipped the spoon in, presenting the first bite to her.
Sedona savored the spoonful, closing her eyes. “Yum, double yum. Manna ingredients are the best.”
When she opened her eyes, the fierce glow of his gaze caused her to sizzle deliciously. With her body molten desire, she moved close, and took the spoon from his hand.
Twisting at the waist, she scooped up a generous portion and slowly brought to his lips. “Taste.”
Sedona watched him enjoy. It was as though he relished every particle. “Is the cloud flavor to your liking?” she breathy-inquired, and knew her eyelids were at half-mast.
Volcano swept her against him, hard. The spoon clattered on the floor. Sedona wrapped her arms around his neck as he planted a long swashbuckling kiss on her lips.
Only gradually did their mouths untangle. Volcano loosened his hold, but kept her embraced, tenderly rocking her.
“You taste exquisite, like cloud ambrosia, my beloved Sedona.”
Standing on tiptoe, Sedona clung brushing her lips against his for what felt like endless moments. “Nothing like the romance of creamy fruit kisses. Let’s eat, handsome.”
Romance and Rooms ~ It's the open road. It's the sky. It's the galaxy.
It seems I’ve hit a major brain malfunction. In terms of my writing, only ~ just to be clear. My brain seems to be working just fine on every other matter. Perhaps, my mind is simply romance-writing burned out... Or there’s just not enough *ROOM* in the ole noodle, anymore. Though, it doesn’t feel like that’s the problem. No mental block against reading a romance novel. No, feelings of *I don’t want any romance in my life, right now... oh, ick.
Yet, yesterday turned out to be one of THE MOST HORRIBLE experiences I’ve ever had writing a scene that I actually wanted to write. I adore penning new scenes for Sedona and Volcano, my heroine and hero in WHEN A GOOD ANGEL FALLS. In fact, I felt enthusiastic about creating their one year celebration in honor of the first day they met each other.
I mean, what could be more natural? August 13th, 2008 was the release date for ANGEL. Why not let Sedona and Volcano celebrate a year later on December 21, 2013?
Okay, maybe, I should have just selected a *ROOM* scene from their story. Rooms, let’s see... there’s a cave... there are underground tunnels... there’s a mountain cabin... there’s a tiny abode in another dimensional realm... mostly, though, it’s Sedona and Volcano together, creating room for each other and a home on earth for humankind.
So, here it is... the scene that took, at least, eight grueling hours... and I mean grueling with a capital G. Does it work? Heck, I don’t know. All I know is that I like it, despite the mental torment I went through to finally create my celebratory passionate scene.
Oh, the room? It’s the open road. It’s the sky. It’s the galaxy. Ultimately, it’s Sedona and Volcano’s love for each other...
So, it’s up to you, now... like it or hate it, or somewhere between those two possibilities... yep, this could be the absolutely worst writing ever in the whole history of writing... I assume there are awards for that. Or, I’m just hoping.
BTW, the following scene is X-Rated for those who prefer not read those types of excerpts.
December 21, 2013 ~ THE CELEBRATION
Sedona felt like a temptress as she leaned forward and hugged Volcano tightly. The shape of his super-cycle seduced her bare thighs while the black celestial leather of his jacket wickedly teased her naked breasts. Somehow the carnal cherub had convinced her to go skinny dipping in the sky.
He’d refused to tell her the destination of their celebration, though. Their first meeting had been one year ago and Sedona hadn’t known if he was friend or foe. Still, his dark purple eyes had glinted with the playful passion she’d come to adore, then glowed with the promise of pleasures she just couldn’t say no to... that is, if she rode behind him nude.
“Where are we going?” Sedona aimed her breathy voice toward his ear.
“Woman, ask me again, and your heavenly butt will know the divine fire of my hand.”
“Is that on the erotic menu for later?” Sedona stroked her nose in the thick strands of his hair, then nuzzled his neck as he prepared the super-cycle for take off, humming it with his palm.
“You are my erotic menu. I plan to dine on every gorgeous inch of you, my Sedona.”
The primal deepness of his voice and the scorching raw scent of his virility slickened her sex. “Stop it, you bad cherub, or I won’t be able to hang onto...”
They blasted off with a silent ferocious speed. The feeling of utter freedom invigorated her spirit as they flew down the winding California highway they’d been traveling on. The inky darkness of midnight and the refreshing chill enveloped them, as did the complete emptiness of the road.
The terrific force of the ocean-drenched winds pummeled her skin and Sedona flattened herself against Volcano’s back, holding on more tightly. Wild with excitement, she savored the forceful buffeting of the winds and the fecund odors whipping around her. Mother Earth was in recovery and Sedona felt the singing gladness of her heart.
Volcano knew how much she craved this sense of flying free and fast. Thinking of nothing else but these precious moments, Sedona basked in the sculpted hard feel of his torso. Goddess, he was magnificently made as a man. She lived in constant wonder over his masculinity. Not so much because of his physique and spiritual heritage. But because he was more of a real man in how he cared for her than any human male she’d ever been with.
The brilliant flash of oncoming lights caused her eyes to blink open. Enemy? she mind-asked.
Scavenger semi-truck, he returned.
Hauling scrap lumber and building material.
Not altering course, Volcano streamlined the super-cycle and sailed them above the semi. They soared into the night sky, the winds becoming colder as they jetted higher and higher. Sedona wanted to shiver as the savagely swirling winds sluiced over her body. At the same time, she felt deliciously untamed.
The barest wink of stars surrounded them, a spectacular sight. Gradually, the heavy clouds of volcanic ash were being cleansed from the atmosphere. Before her gaze a long thin cloud formed, streaming in front of the moon, only a distorted haze of crimson light in the black sky.
Ship or real cloud? she telepathed.
Platform, my woman.
Time pulsed rapidly, a blur of beautiful sensations for Sedona as Volcano landed the super-cycle on the celestial ship’s platform. Lost to everything, except his lover’s embrace, she clung to him as he floated her into the gossamer silkiness of the sky.
Bare skin against bare skin, he spun them upwards as if they danced to the strains of an ethereal waltz. In a magnificent burst of power, his ebony wings appeared and Volcano winged them higher until the pure white radiance of the stars surrounded them.
Slowly rotating them in the heavens, he wrapped his wings around her, a sensual cocoon. Suddenly, the engorged strength of his cock pressed against her belly, the demanding brute she wanted and an omnipotent force she desired with her whole being.
Sedona opened her thighs as his hands claimed her waist, lifting her. The mighty lunge of his shaft inside her sex caused her to cry out, a melodic sound she’d never heard before. Dreamy and blazing with need, she embraced him with her body and tightly held his cock with her sheath.
Joined as one, they whirled through the cosmos until time felt like a distant memory to Sedona. Every particle of her flesh blazed with celestial light and their stunning speed became an indescribable rapture. It was as if a cyclone carried them throughout the galaxy and refused to release them.
Until... saturated with the orgasmic bliss, they halted, motionless in the sky. Several kisses later, they fell back to Earth. A slow drifting descent among the pale stars of early morning.
Sedona, my angel woman, I love you.
The Year of the Romantic Heart... Be kiss-ready...
This is the Year of the Romantic Heart. Why? For many cosmic-force reasons, which would take lots of pages to detail properly here. The most obvious, however, is that this is the Year of Two in numerology. The year, 2009 adds up to TWO [2+0+0+9=11=2] ~~~
TWO is the number of relationship and romance in numerology. February is the month of TWO, thus, absolutely perfect for Valentine’s Day. I’m telling you the Love Goddess, whether you call her Venus or Aphrodite, knows the art of planning and encouraging romance. And she has her celestial divine ways.
Yes, this is the year to ~~~ Be kiss-ready ~~~
I rarely pays attention to most TV commercials anymore. For one reason I find most of them tediously boring. I do keep one eye *sort of* open simply to keep track of evolving cultural trends, which has always been a fascination for me. So, here I was penning a bloggie for my Kougar Kisses blog and I hear in the background *be kiss-ready* ... how sweetly and passionately perfect for this Year of the love number Two.
Now, the couple in the commercial, while cute in a teenage way... has little to do with the true possibilities and pleasures of being *kiss-ready* ~~~ for, what if you could look forward to delicious sweet and wild kisses from the lover of your choice everyday...what if...what if your lover bestowed your favorite kisses everyday and craved that time when you would bestow their favorite kisses...
Tell me, how much would that improve the love quality of your life?
On a global scale, how much would that improve the world for all us???
You betcha, a whole darn lot. If people were smooching up a passionate storm, how many would really care about fighting wars, for example?
And, how much fun could life be and become, if you and your beloved are always *kiss-ready* for each other?
Gals and guys, I say make it your sweetest goal this year to *be kiss-ready” ~~~
******
Since I remembered, this is a poem I wrote about thirteen years ago, about how just one kiss can transform a person’s life. I wrote it for the beginning of my first novella, Savage Gameswoman, so be kind...it was awhile ago.
Whose soul
has not been
transformed by the perfect kiss?
The first kiss beyond innocense–
The passion-ruled kiss without end–
The terrible soft kiss of farewell–
Whose life
has not turned
upon a kiss?
Each kiss we heart-soaring treasure–
Each torrid-sparking kiss that ignites the flesh–
Each kiss of promised sweetest love–
Whose heart
was never changed
upon a lip-honey kiss?
The remembered rapture of rolling kisses–
The night kisses of imagination’s fire–
I ask you!
Whose journey
was never altered
upon one kiss?
***
Oh, and reading romance novels could definitely be a kiss-ready aid. I’ll confess something that’s probably obvious. I love watching couples kiss...the movies, TV shows, and for real...especially when the kiss or kisses are from the heart. And as an author, I sigh over writing those kisses...no matter how sweet and tender or how passionate and scorching.
My hero in When a Good Angel Falls, Volcano, is what is known as a carnal cherub. That is, he can operate in either the mortal or immortal realms. Since he’s here on Earth, albeit in 2012, with his heroine, Sedona, he gives me his angelic forecast each week. This one is about LOVE and the number 2 ~
February 2, 2009
Angelic Forecast ~ XXII
“Okay,” I murmur, “the 2's definitely have it. Here.” I feel astounded to say the cosmic-least, as I stare THE NUMBERS. All the numbers.
“Two, the magical and mystical I love you.” The Heavenly One has popped out of the ethers beside me.
“It must be all about love,” I say, entranced by the sight of Venus, hanging high above the western horizon, and so amazingly bright in the night sky, I can scarcely believe it.
“February, the second month, ushers in new horizons for love...for being loved.”
Suddenly a glistening shower of itsy bitsy pink hearts fall before my eyes.
