The World of a Texas Ranch

SOUTH TEXAS RANCHLAND
As authors, we are privileged to create worlds where we might like to live, while in reality we never would. All my imagined "worlds" are earthly ones, unlike someone who creates a science fiction place, or a paranormal realm, or one inhabited by other-worldly creatures--werewolves, vampires, and shape shifters.
For me, the most fun kind of envisioned world is a big ranch, set in some reasonably pleasant area in Texas where I might enjoy living.
In my last "Texas" book, Texas True, the young heroine, True Leigh Cameron, marries a man who is almost a foreigner--Sam Deleon, the older disinherited son of a Spanish matriarch who needs him to marry and have a son so that he might regain the huge ranch that was willed to the worthless younger son.
Through many trials and tribulations, heartbreak and sadness, Sam and True come to a kind of agreement. Without giving away the plot, Sam visits the South Texas ranch to determine what and how much of the Deleon fortune he can salvage from what his brother has squandered.
In order to place my hero and heroine in a happy place of their own, I have Sam camping out on a bluff overlooking a river and many acres of prime pasture. This place is on the far side of the ranch from the old, run-down original ranch house.
THE DREAM HOUSE
He sleeps by the camp-fire and has a dream about a beautiful house on the bluff.
There is a gazebo to the side, closer to the edge, for lovers and dreamers to sit close , sip some wine...
...and watch a beautiful Texas sunset.
Ahhh, love.

TEXAS TRUE is one of the Cameron Sisters novels, that of the younger daughter.
TEXAS PROMISE is also one of the Cameron Sisters novels, that of the younger daughter.

It looks a stunningly lovely place, Celia! I love the gazebo.

I'm also surprised by how 'English' the woods appear, but I'm sure there are creatures in those woods that are partic Texan.

You do live in a beautiful spot and I'm not surprised you take inspiration from it.

Hi Celia. What beautiful pictures of Texas. Makes me want to visit your state again. I've driven through several times and stopped in some of the cities but I think I've missed the best parts. I have read your Cameron Sisters books and I didn't miss the best parts there. They are wonderful stories set in your beloved state. I nominate you for Queen of Texas Romance. And if you need a waiting lady??? Where do I apply? Linda

Celia, I love the pictures you included in the post. It helped me to visual the settings. I hate to say it, but I'm such a sucker for my paranormal settings. What we do have in common is our love for world buildin be Texas Ranches or Romanian Castles.

Steph

Absolutely gorgeous scenery and settings, Celia. I've only been to Bandera and San Antonio but I sure loved what I saw of the hill country.

Celia, thank you so much for these pics of beautiful Texas, and your description of True and Sam. I sure see why you set their story in that gorgeous area.

Lindsay--not to mislead you, but the gazebo is just a photo I found. I have no idea where it is, but such places would more likely be found north of the Houston area, in the lakes and forest region.
Right now, so much of Texas is dry it's disheartening. As soon as it rains, it all comes back.
The South Texas rnachland photos are south of her, down closer to the Mexico border. Nice pastureland. Celia

Linda--don't visit right now! We're in a drought and it's the end of a long hot summer. Spring should be lovely, though.
I accept the nomination of Queen of Texas Romance--Oh, they like me, they really, really like me. Wait, Jodi Thomas has this title already. Shoot.
Thanks for reading all my books. What would I do without you? Celia

Mercy so I miss those Texas sunsets. The evenings spent with warm air kissing my skin and the smell of Texas making me smile. There truly is no place like it. Thanks for the reminder, Celia! :)
